The Elisha Challenge

March 15th, 2009

OK. So now it begins. Six weeks of challenges based on the lives of Elisha and Elijah. The first week (that’s right – week 1 LOL) is ACTS OF SERVICE. So, we’ve got 164 hours from the time I post this, until we meet next week, to do at least 2 acts of service. Then come back and record it here by clicking on “comments” below this post.

1 Peter 2:12 (New Century Version)
People who do not believe are living all around you and might say that you are doing wrong. Live such good lives that they will see the good things you do and will give glory to God on the day when Christ comes again.

Well I don’t mean to brag or anything, but today in school this guy dropped his phone without noticing and I ran over and made sure he got it back. Now you may think, ‘what a stupid thing to do in order to meet your service quota for the day!’ But if you look at the situation a little more in depth you see that if I hadn’t done that he would have lost his phone. So it counts… at least as a half service. I’ll get back to you with more.

Nancy Purcell asked me to bake cookies for The Crossing next week. I said yes even though I’ve baked stuff for people 3 weeks in a row and am getting a little tired of remembering to bring what I baked each week. But I hope you all enjoy my cookies (They’ll be chocolate chip)!

On Monday, My teacher needed to get a bunch of stuff done, and didn’t have enough time to do them all. So, I told her I would help out, so she could get all the stuff done.

I haven’t done anything yet, but its so cool that you guys are starting to do stuff. I prayed this morning for God to bring an opportunity, so we’ll see . . . !

Haha it doesn’t count if you give hitchhikers a ride. ;) I did the dishes even though I had a mild headache and was tired due to preparation for this message thing I was giving for the sophomore chapel at my school. (It went well. :) ) This might count as negative though because I skipped guys’ kinship for being tired due to preparation for this message thing I was giving for the sophomore chapel at my school hehe

I helped Ester vacume out her car on wednesday. I will post more when I do something worth telling. :)

Only 97 hours left! Just need to find some people that I don’t know to help. This will be a challenge. Maybe I’ll have to make a trip to the grocery store or something…

  8. 8 John Says:

    I’ve completed the challenge. :)
Here are my two instances of service: I bought lunch for two special people on…Monday, I think? And last night I stayed at work for like 30 minutes after I’d clocked out to make sure this one girl had a ride. Nothing too huge, but at least I did the challenge. :)

OK – so I was in line at the City of Newark to pay a water bill, and suddenly I had my opportunity. We were waiting FOREVER in line, and there was this guy behind me who had his kid with him. I was up next, so I was going to let him cut in front of me. Then, right before I could do it, another lady opened up a register, totally ignored me, and asked the guy over! So I missed my chance for service!!! Or does it count? :)

  10. 10 Taliah Says:

I held a door open for a woman I didn’t know on Sunday night. It was small, but I think it should count. :)

  11. 11 James Leonard Says:

At the showing of the Crossing I held the door open for a lady. I also gave her directions because she didnt know where to go.
If taliah’s counts mine does too. :)
